REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ABU DHABI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan ordered here on Saturday a major humanitarian campaign to reach out to about 10 million people affected by the unfolding crisis in Yemen, state news agency WAM reported.

The campaign, themed "Yemen: We care," will kick off on Sunday and aims to initiate projects to ease the suffering of about Yemeni people.

On Aug. 23, the UAE has provided Yemen a humanitarian aid worth about 200 million U.S. dollars, around half of the total aid pledged by international donors to Yemen in 2015, WAM reported.

The UAE is part of the Saudi-led coalition comprising nine Arab states supporting Yemen's "legitimate" government under President Hadi.

The campaign aims to stop Shiite Houthi rebels from seizing the power in the country, as Saudi Arabia claimed the rebels are backed by Iran.
