Jusuf Kalla officially inaugurates Indonesian Handicraft expo

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla here, Wednesday, officially opened Inacraft 2016, the Indonesian handicraft exhibition being held at the Jakarta Convention Center until April 24.

A total of 1.4 thousand handicraft industries from 34 provinces are participating in the five-day event.

As many as 1,333 kiosks have been set up of which 849 are for individual participants, 359 for regional administrations, 117 for state-owned companies, and eight for foreign participants from Singapore, Japan, Pakistan, Nepal, India, and Syria.

The expo is themed "From Smart Village to Global Market" to promote Indonesian handicrafts in international markets.

This year's exhibition is showcasing the Minangkabau community from West Sumatra by featuring its arts and culture.

Various handicraft products, such as batik, traditional woven clothing, embroidery, songket, ikat and accessories, statues, wood carvings, furniture, educational toys, gold and silver jewelry, and gems are on display at the expo.

The exhibition is also featuring pottery, ceramics, clay products, and home decor items.

The organizing committee has provided shuttle buses in certain malls, such as Margocity, Taman Anggrek, and Sumarecon Bekasi, to transport visitors to the Jakarta Convention Hall.
