JAKARTA -- Indonesian Emergency Hospital for covid-19 patient is ready to operate since Monday (March, 23). President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially inaugurated the operation of the hospital located at Wisma Atlet Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Monday.

A total of two towers with a capacity of 3,000 beds in the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Complex have been completed into an emergency hospital (RS) handling Covid-19. 

This health facility utilizing the 2018 Asian Games athletes' residences will support a similar hospital that has now been built on Galang Island, Riau Islands.

The government is in a race with time to prepare health facilities accommodating the surge in the number of positive patients from Covid-19.

In line with the rapid tests that will be conducted, the government predicts a significant increase in the number of people infected with corona. Rapid testing is projected to reveal more Covid-19 patients who have not been touched by a health test.

The president reviewed some of the facilities available such as the emergency department (IGD) and intensive care unit (ICU). The Covid-19 Emergency Hospital at Wisma Atay Kemayoran is also equipped with a pharmaceutical laboratory and a supervised care unit (HCU).

"I need to say that the Wisma Atlet (Athlete's House) has a capacity of 24 thousand people. At present, what has been prepared is for 3,000 patients with a spatial area that has been laid out with a good management," Jokowi said.

Covid-19 patient care will be focused on tower 6 and tower 7 Wisma Atlet Kemayoran. All medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, will also have a separate room to rest. 

The government, through the Ministry of BUMN, also ensures that all medical equipment is ready, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) to medical equipment to treat patients.

The use of corona emergency hospital will be divided into three zones. First, the green zone is Tower 1. This zone will be filled by the Covid-19 Handling Acceleration Task Force. Only people with an interest can enter this area. 

Second, the yellow zone is Tower 3. This zone will be filled by doctors, nurses and other paramedics. 

Third, the red zone is Tower 6-7 which is used as an emergency hospital handling Covid-19. Only those who use the full PPE can enter this zone besides the patient.

Minister of State-Owned Companies (BUMN) Erick Thohir revelaed his ministry has mobilized a number of state-owned companies (BUMN) to assist with the readiness of hospital at Wisma Athlete. 

A number of state-owned enterprises are tasked with repairing physical facilities, including preparing a number of negative-pressure floors which prevent viruses entering the ICU.

BUMN has provided personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical personnel on duty. The availability of PPE is sufficient.

Erick said that the management of Wisma Atlet will also be carried out by PT Hotel Indonesia Natour who has experience in providing professional services.

Erick explained the initial idea of ​​using the Kemayoran Athlete's House as an emergency hospital handling Covid-19 could not be separated from his experience when handling the Asian Games event two years ago.

With the development of an expanding pandemic, Erick said, it would be a shame if the facilities as big as Wisma Athayoran Athletes were not utilized to treat a growing number of patients.

"We convey to the President and he is very supportive. Therefore, now it has become like this. SOCs don't talk about what and why, all ministries work together to work hand in hand, the TNI Commander takes over operationally," Erick explained.

He asserted SOCs have the responsibility to ensure all medical equipment in this emergency hospital is fulfilled. Erick also ensured that the supply of medicines will be secured by SOCs that are engaged in drug production.
