REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) in collaboration with nine construction state-owned enterprises (SOEs/BUMN) has massively made the procurement and use of one million electric (induction) stoves.

President Director of PLN Zulkifli Zaini explained currently the government has a housing program for the community that involves nine construction BUMN. When these houses are finished they can immediately use the electric stove.

Zaini stated that this was a good momentum to encourage national energy security. The electric stove conversion program is expected to run quickly. Moreover, PLN has a target to realize the conversion of 1 million induction stoves by 2021.

State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir said the electric stove program was strengthened to reduce LPG imports. This was said by Erick when signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the State Electricity Company (PLN) and construction SOEs, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), and the Ministry of BUMN in Jakarta, Wednesday (31/3).

Erick assessed that the use of electric stoves will provide many benefits for the state and society. "If 15 million electric stoves are used, this is a tremendous savings in reducing LPG imports. People benefit, the average cost of cooking at home is Rp. 147 thousand per month, with an electric stove being Rp. 118 thousand per month or saving 20 percent," said Erick.

Erick is optimistic that the program to use electric stoves will run well, especially with the support from the Ministry of PUPR and BUMN Karya, which ensures that all construction of houses and apartments are equipped with electric stove facilities.

Erick assessed that the conversion from LPG stoves to electric stoves is not impossible to materialize. This is not much different from the previous condition where LPG was present to replace kerosene.

This will accelerate Indonesian's effort to reduce imports in the next five years. Erick hopes that there will be extraordinary savings, now almost Rp. 60 trillion, which can be used for the welfare of the community.

Erick conveyed that the electric stove program was also part of the transformation of BUMN in realizing energy security, food security and health security. The electric stove program follows the transformation carried out by the previous BUMN Ministry which formed the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC).

"We don't want to be just a market but a part of changing times, especially since Indonesia's nickel reserves are the largest in the world," said Erick.

Electric cars have proven to be much more efficient than gasoline-powered cars. Erick took the example of using a gasoline car that costs Rp. 1.1 million for the Jakarta-Bali route. Meanwhile, using an electric car only costs IDR 250 thousand.
