REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Chief of Indonesian Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral TNI Yudo Margono said that the Nanggala-402 submarine was split into three parts.

The warship of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) Nanggala-402 sank in the waters north of Bali Island at a depth of 838 meters below the sea level.

"KRI Nanggala-402 was split into three parts," the TNI commander said during a press conference at the Air Force Base Ops Base I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Bali, Sunday (25/4).

The three parts are split, namely the part that is detached from the main body of the submarine, the main body of the ship, and the back of the ship which is not compressed.

He explained the parts of the ship that were detected by the Indonesian and Singaporean ships on Sunday morning.

TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto said the search team had succeeded in detecting several parts of the ship, including the rear vertical rudder, anchors, embossed diving rudders, the clothes and safety of the MK11 crew.

The detection results were obtained after KRI Rigel-933 searched the northern waters of Bali using a sonar multibeam echosounder (MBES) detection tool on Sunday at 01.00 WITA.

In this search, the underwater detection tool (ROV) operated by KRI Rigel-933 was only able to detect up to a maximum depth of 800 meters. Therefore, the detection results were submitted and continued by the Singapore-owned ship, MV Swift Rescue.

"Then, the contact was identified at 07.37 WITA this morning. MV Swift Rescue sent the ROV to follow up on the underwater contact that was given by KRI Rigel," said Hadi.

At 09.04 WITA, the Singapore ROV got visual contact at the position of 07 degrees 48 minutes 56 seconds south latitude, 114 degrees 51 minutes 20 seconds east longitude, which is precisely from datum one where the sinking of KRI Nanggala was 1,500 yards to the south at a depth of 838 meters.

KRI Nanggala-402 had lost contact on Wednesday morning (21/4) and was set to drown on Saturday (24/4).
