REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Indonesian government will send humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Afghanistan. In which, Earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.3 struck Afghanistan in the span of October 7 and 15, 2023.

“The delivery of humanitarian aid is of strategic value for Indonesia to demonstrate its humanitarian commitment and good image in the eyes of the International. It is also Indonesia's soft diplomacy to countries in Central Asia, especially Afghanistan,” Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said at  Jakarta, Tuesday (21/11/2023).

Furthermore, Muhadjir said that the delivery of humanitarian aid will be carried out through BNPB. Government assistance prepared through the Ready to Use Fund (DSP) of BNPB worth Rp 22,104,330.000. According to the request from Afghanistan, only logistical assistance will be sent.

There are 17 types of logistics goods prepared to be delivered, namely refugee tents, family tents, generator sets, velbeds, folding mattresses, hygiene equipment, blankets, winter jackets, long john, artisan tools, underwear, clean water filtration sleeping bags, solar lamps survival gear, tracksuits, women's hygiene.

“The delivery of humanitarian aid also involves the parties of other agencies including the military, the police and the relevant ministries plus the participation of the community of philanthropic organizations, community organizations and personal assistance,” he said.

Further, in the case of sending a humanitarian team to consider Indonesia's diplomatic position. Given the present, Indonesia has only opened an Ad Interim Business Power Office in Afghanistan. Then, third parties as aid delivery agencies could go through UN OCHA or the Afghan Red Cross.

“The military and police will coordinate assistance as well and have prepared the alustista facility and its personnel, pending the direction of Mr. President,” Muhadjir said.

In this hybrid RTM opportunity, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, BNPB Head Suharyanto, Deputy PMK Setkab Yuli Harsono, representatives of the Ministry of Health, Setneg, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economic Affairs, BPKP were present.

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on October 7 and 15, 2023. The current situation is that 1,480 people died, 19.50 people were injured, and 43.00 people were directly injured as a result of the earthquake. About 114.00 people of them needed emergency assistance.
