REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MALANG -- Not long ago Indonesian was successfully adopted as an official language at The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This meant Indonesian was the 10th official language to be inaugurated after Arabic, Italian, and Portuguese.

Indonesian Lecturer from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), M. Isnaini, said he was also proud. This was not separate from the government's efforts to propose Indonesian as the official language of UNESCO's general assembly.

According to him, it is very worthy of Indonesian to be made the official language of the General Assembly of UNESCO. Speakers of this language have even reached more than 200 million people. “Dan's got more than 100,000 vocabularies,” he said.

In addition, this man called Krishna explained, Indonesian has also been taught in more than 48 countries around the world. The number of speakers also reached 275 million, consisting of local and foreign speakers.

This success also aligns with the message written in Law Number 44 of 2009. This rule basically explains that the government is gradually improving the functioning of the Indonesian language by making it a sustainable and systematic international language.

According to him, there are various impacts on the establishment of Indonesian as an official language of UNESCO. In the economic sphere, for example, this provision can improve cooperation between traders. “Where expats working in Indonesia are required to master the Indonesian language,” he explained in an official message received by Republika.

Meanwhile, in the field of culture, he said, this has been a great way to introduce so much Indonesian culture, both at home and abroad. In order to make this happen, the government and the public need to strengthen the awareness of the Indonesian language so that it becomes more widely known to the world. One of the programs promoted by the government is the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program that exists in various universities.

According to him, this determination should be followed by people's efforts to use the Indonesian language well, not instead of abandoning it. He advised young people not to damage the image of Indonesia's native language with slang languages that tend to undermine the Indonesian language order.

Keisha judged that this condition does not mean that slang like this should not be used to communicate. However, it would be nice to make maximum effort to use the common and good Indonesian language as a communication language to maintain the authenticity of the language.
