REPUBLICA.CO.ID, Jakarta—when the caliphates of Abu Bakr ash-Shiddiq and Umar bin Khattab various disputes among Muslims could still be easily resolved. Tribal tensions are still well understood and accepted by many.

But after the death of Umar ibn Khattab, various slander rippled through the Muslims. The strife has left the unity of Muslims shaky.

Before his death, the Prophet (peace and blasphemy) had signaled the wave of slander that would occur among Muslims after the death of Umar ibn Khattab. According to the following hadith:

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ حَدَّثَنَا شَقِيقٌ سَمِعْتُ حُذَيْفَةَ يَقُولُ بَيْنَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ عِنْدَ عُمَرَ إِذْ قَالَ أَيُّككُمْ يَحْفَظُ قَوْلَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ قَالَ فِتْنَةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ وَجَارِهِ تُكَفِّرُهَا الصَّلَاةُ وَالصَّدَقَةُ وَالْأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَاللنَّهْيُ عَنْ الْمُنْكَرِ قَالَ لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا أَسْأَلُكَ وَلَكِنْ الَّتِي تَمُوجُ كَمَوْجِ الْبَحْرِ قَالَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ مِنْهَا بَأْسٌ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهَا بَابًا مُغْلَقًا قَالَ عُمَرُ أَيُكْسَرُ الْبَابُ أَمْ يُفْتَحُ قَالَ بَلْ يُكْسَرُ قَالَ عُمَرُ إِذًا لَا يُغْلَقَ أَبَدًا قُلْتُ أَجَلْ قُلْنَا لِحُذَيْفَةَ أَكَانَ عُمَرُ يَعْلَمُ الْبَابَ قَالَ نَعَمْ كَمَا يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ دُونَ غَدٍ لَيْللَةً وَذَلِكَ أَنِّي حَدَّثْتُهُ حَدِيثًا لَيْسَ بِالْأَغَالِيطِ فَهِبْنَا أَنْ نَسْأَلَهُ مَنْ الْبَابُ فَأَمَرْنَا مَسْرُوقًا فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ مَنْ الْبَابُ قَالَ عُمَرُ  

It means: Had told us Umar ibn Hafsh ibn Ghiyats had told us my father had told us Al A'masy had told us Shaqiq I heard Khudzaifah say: when we were sitting with Umar, he suddenly asked, 'Who among you memorized the words of the Prophet (SAW) about slander? Khudzaifah replied, 'The slander of a person in his family, his property and his son and his neighbor can be erased by prayer, alms, and amar maruf nahi mungkar. '

Umar said, “It is not about this that I ask you, but about (slander) that is as undulating as the waves of the sea.” The Khudzaifah said, 'You will not be affected by the slander, O amirul believers, because between you and the slander there is a closed door. ' Umar asked, “Has the door been broken or opened? Khudzaifah replied, 'Even solved. ' Then Umar said, “Then it will not be closed forever.” I said, “That's right.” I asked Khudzaifah, 'Did Umar know the door? Khudzaifah replied, 'Yes, as he knew that after tomorrow night, which is because I told him the Hadith without error, we were afraid to ask Umar who the real door was. 'Then we instructed Masruq to ask Khudzaifah: (who is the door), Khudzaifah replied: 'Umar. '(Sahih Bukhari number 6567).

The slander was manifested by the division of the people. There is a great dispute among Muslims, especially with regard to who has the right to be the leader.

“Thus it turns out that what the Prophet (PBUH) hinted at actually happened. Just after the killing of Umar in 23 A.H., there was a variety of slander among the people, the cause of the spread of the slanders being the killing of Umar. (An-Nihayah Fitan wa Ahwal Akhir Az Zaman by Ibn Qatsir which was also translated by Ansori Umar S and Imron Hasan in Huru Hari Hakimat, published by Pustaka Al Kautsar in 2002, page 7).
