REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Satan will tempt anyone including the religious. Ironically, when a person goes astray, it is precisely the devil that escapes responsibility.
Ubaid ibn Rifa'ah heard the Prophet Muhammad tell a story about the straying of the rabbi Israel.
The rabbi among the Israel. Satan took a girl and made her like a strangled person.
Satan also whispered to the girl's family that the cure for her recovery was in the hands of the rabbi. So the girl was brought before him, but the rabbi refused the girl's presence because her family kept urging, finally the rabbi was willing to accept her so the girl settled down with him.
Then, the devil came and persuaded the rabbi to bang the girl. In the end, the girl became pregnant.
Satan came to the rabbi again and whispered to him, “Now this girl's family will come to you. It is better to just kill the girl, if her family comes to you, just say that the girl is dead.”
So the rabbi killed the girl and buried her. Afterward, satan coming to the family of the murdered girl, the devil whispered into their hearts that their girl had become pregnant because of the rabbi deeds, then the rabbi killed her and buried her.
So the family went to him and asked about the condition of their daughter. The rabbi replied, “He is dead. “Then they arrested him.
The story is excerpted from the book Talbis Iblis written by Ibn Jauzi or Abu al-Faraj ibn al-Jauzi, published Maktabah Al-Madani Cairo 1983, and translated and republished by Pustaka Al-Kautsar 2010.
At the end, the devil came to the rabbi and said, “I am the one who has hit the girl and made her look like a suffocating person. I am also the one who broke the hearts of his family and encouraged you to do so. Therefore, obey me so that you may be saved. Laugh at me twice.”
“(The persuasion of the hypocrites) is like the devil when he said to man, “Disbelieve ye,” and when the man disbelieved, he said, “I depart from you, for I fear Allah, the Lord of the Universe.” (Al-Hasyr Verse 16)
