REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- One thing that the Messenger of Allah is afraid of happening to his people is a small shirk. What is that little shirk?
The little shirk is riya (doing good deeds to be seen by others, not because of Allah alone). Allah says,
“Whoever expects an encounter with his Lord, let him do righteous deeds, and associate no one in the worship of his Lord.”
And the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)
“The thing I am most afraid of happening to you is the little shirk (riya).” (Narrated by Imam Ahmad)
Included in the form of a small shirk are the words of a person: “If it were not for Allah and the Anu... Or the words of someone: “If it were not the will of God and your will...“
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Do not say, 'As Allah wills, and as He wills. But say, “As God wills, then as He wills. '” (Shahih hadith narrated by Abu Dawud)
