REPUBLICA.CO.ID, One day, when the Messenger of Allah (SAW), was sitting with his companions, he suddenly stared at the sky as if hearing the whisper of an angel. Then the Messenger of Allah looked back at them and said, “Now there will be before you a man who lives in Paradise.”
Hearing the words of the Messenger of Allah, the companions looked to the right and left in every direction, to see who were the happy men who were the inhabitants of Paradise. Soon the awaited man came, Sa'ad ibn Abi Waqqash.
In addition to being famous as a devoted child to parents, Sa'ad bin Abi Waqqash was also famous for his courage in warfare defending the religion of God. There are two important things people know about his heroism. First, Sa'ad was the first to release arrows in defense of God's religion and also the first to be hit by arrows. He almost always accompanied the Prophet Saw in every battle.
Secondly, Sa'ad was the only person who was guaranteed by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) with the guarantee of both his parents. In the Battle of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Arrows, O Sa'ad! My father and mother are collateral to you.”
Sa'ad ibn Abi Waqqash is also known as a friend whose prayers are always granted by Allah. Qais reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Allah, accept Sa'ad if he prays.“
History records that Sa'ad bin Abi Waqqash's last days were when he entered the age of 80. In ill health, Sa'ad advised his companions that he should be clothed in the robes he had used in the War of Badar—the first victorious war for the Muslims.
This mighty hero breathed his last in 55 H by leaving fond memories and a fragrant name. He was buried in Baqi' cemetery, the tomb of the martyrs.
