REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- MER-C volunteers who are still in the Gaza Strip, Fikri Rofiul Haq said Israeli soldiers again launched an attack in front of the school where they fled, in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The attack took place on Monday (8/1/2024) at 18:21 local time or around 23:21pm.
“There was a huge explosion on Monday, January 8, 2024 near the school where we are located. And this is very close to the school where we live, only a few tens of meters away or even a few tens of meters because it is exactly in front of where we are,” Fikri said in a press release received by Republika on Tuesday (9/1/2024).
In the video he sent, it was seen that smoke was very thick after the explosion. According to Fikri, the explosion sounded very loud from the location where he was evacuated.
“And earlier the explosion was very strong, until it shook the place where we were evacuated and the people who were doing their activities went straight into the school where we were located,” Fikri said.
Israel continues to occupy Gaza into its fourth month. The war has caused at least 85 percent of Gaza's 2.4 million residents to be displaced, according to U.N. figures.
Israeli forces also in November carried out a siege and attack on an Indonesian hospital in Bait Lahiya, northern Gaza, for days. They ordered the emptying of the Hospital forcing three MER-C volunteers, 550 patients still being treated, along with 200 medical workers and at least 1,500 Palestinians seeking refuge to have to evacuate to Southern Gaza.
