REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Presidential candidate number 01, Anies Baswedan, handed over to the public to assess President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) statement that a president is allowed to campaign during elections.

“I think people can digest and then root and weigh these views. Because earlier what we heard was neutral, ayomizing all, facilitating all. We leave it to the Indonesians to digest and judge,” Anies said at the DIY Governor's Office Complex, Yogyakarta City, Wednesday (24/1/2024).

Anies insists that a state official must refer to the applicable rule of law in exercising his authority. Do not make society difficult and bother with the rules of the country that are not obeyed.

“The problems of the people are already high now, the cost of living is expensive, jobs are difficult, do not add to the hassles of the country's rules that are not obeyed,” Anies said.

Earlier, President Jokowi confirmed that a President is also allowed to campaign during elections. In addition, Jokowi said that a president can also side with a certain candidate.

“The important thing is that the president can campaign. The president can take sides. Yes,” Jokowi said at the Halim Perdanakusuma AU military base in Jakarta, Wednesday (24/1/2024).

In addition to being a public official, he said, the president is also a political official. Nevertheless, Jokowi reiterated during the campaign, the president should not use state facilities.

“We are public officials as well as political officials. Cooking gin is not allowed, politics is not allowed, it is okay. Ministers can too,” Jokowi said.
