REPUBLIC.CO.ID, CAIRO — Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab Allouh said that the conditions of refugees from Gaza at some points of refugee origin are worrisome. According to Diab, many war victims are being evacuated in hospitals and small clinics around Arish and North Sinai. He said the embassy could not provide much help to refugees given limited resources.

Nevertheless, the ambassador admitted that he often visited Gaza patients and refugees who were in several hospitals and refugee points in Egypt. He explained that many refugees on the seashore have difficulty getting access to clean water.

“In order to meet the daily needs, the refugees are planting basic food crops around the refugee tents,” he said while receiving a hearing of the BSMI Team in Cairo, Egypt, Saturday (27/1/2024) in a written statement to the Republic.

Diab also thanked Indonesians who continue to help Palestinians. According to Diab, some of the aid provided was also channeled through the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt. Diab explained that the aid channeled through his side was in the form of heating and blankets for Gaza refugees in El-Arish, Egypt. “Thank you to Indonesia, as well as BSMI for the assistance provided so far,” Diab said.

Furthermore, the ambassador explained, public facilities in the Gaza Strip were crippled. People also have difficulty accessing public facilities such as fuel, daily necessities, clean water, electricity and so on. Not only that, cash donations are also difficult to give directly given that dollar turnover is monitored by Israel and the United States. Another aid that is hard to get into Gaza is ambulances. “There have been many ambulances from several agencies that have reached Rafah but it is still difficult to get access in,” he said.

The Indonesian public's donation to the victims of Gaza is indeed large. BSMI is one of the humanitarian associations that regularly launch programs for Gazans who are victims of the Israeli genocide. BSMI Secretary General Muhammad Rudi explained that the aid channeled from the Indonesian people through BSMI to Gaza has reached Rp 3.5 billion. The aid has been channelled since Israel's military aggression was launched on Oct. There are several types of aid that are channeled from finished food, medicines, medical supplies, ambulances, to cash assistance.

BSMI is also planning to rally aid for the construction of a field hospital in Gaza. The field hospital was also a direct request on the part of the Egyptian Ministry of Health. According to Rudi, BSMI is working with other humanitarian organizations in Indonesia to create the field hospital. Not only that, BSMI is also still preparing post-war programs, one of which is scholarships for Palestinian doctors.
