Jokowi Respects UGM and UII Petitions: Everyone Has Democratic Rights

UGM academic community deplores the deviant actions of Jokowi's government.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave his response to the petition submitted by the academics of the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) for him. Jokowi said that the petition presented is a democratic right for everyone to argue.

“Yes it is the democratic right of everyone to speak their minds, please,” Jokowi said after attending the XVI National Congress of GP Ansor in Port Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Friday (2/2/2024).

Sivitas Academica Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta calls on President Jokowi to remain an example in the practice of statehood. According to the attitude statement signed by the Rector of UII Yogyakarta Prof. Fathul Wahid, President Jokowi should be neutral, fair, and be a leader for all groups and groups.

“Urging President Joko Widodo to return to being an example in ethics and practice of statehood,” Sivitas Academica UII Yogyakarta stated in a press release in Jakarta, Thursday (1/2/2024).
