REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BALIKPAPAN -- The Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Balikpapan Station detected the number of hot spots in East Kalimantan province reduced from 22 on Tuesday (13/2/2024) to nine on Wednesday (14/2/2024).
“Today there are still nine hot spots monitored from 01.00 to 17.00 Wita,” said Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan BMKG Balikpapan's Data and Information Coordinator, Diyan Novrida, in Balikpapan, Wednesday (14/2/2024).
The information on the distribution of these hot spots has also been communicated to the relevant parties. Including to Manggala Agni and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) at both provincial and district/city level so that it can be acted upon.
Although the number of hot spots decreased, he still urged all parties to always be vigilant and prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) from occurring. As with not burning in the forest or on the land.
According to him, vigilance needs to be constantly increased because in recent days it has not rained, so it can cause dry twigs and leaves to burn easily.
A day earlier, 22 hot spots were detected in two districts, namely in East Kutai Regency 19 points and another three in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. Meanwhile, the nine hot spots observed on Wednesday (14/2) are all in East Kutai Regency and spread across three districts.
“The breakdown is in Sangatta North Subdistrict two points, Bengalon six points, and in Kaubun District one point. All the hot spots detected today have a medium confidence level,” Diyan said.
