REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Hang Nadim International Airport Batam, Riau Islands opened international flights to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Saturday (17/2/2024).
Managing Director of PT Bandara Internasional Batam (BIB) Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah said that the Batam-Kuala Lumpur route using Batik Air airline is available three times a week. “These flights are three times a week, both from Batam to Kuala Lumpur and vice versa. If from Batam every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. From Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, Wednesday Friday,” Pikri said.
He mentioned that on this inaugural flight, 114 passengers from Kuala Lumpur had already arrived in Batam. For the departure from Batam to Kuala Lumpur there were 162 passengers.
According to Pikri, the Batam-Kuala Lumpur route is the second international flight to open in 2024. Previously, Hang Nadim International Airport has opened the Batam-Kunming route, China.
“It's the second international flight and that's connecting other cities not just Kuala Lumpur, but also to Medina, Mecca, China, Korea, because all are connected with the opening of these flights,” he said.
Meanwhile, Consul Muda Pelancongan/Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia Medan Yusnita Yusof, mentioned that the opening of the Batam-Kuala Lumpur flight is a form of cooperation in efforts to improve the goals or targets of guest visits in each country. It targets Indonesian guest houses visiting Malaysia to reach 4 million visitors by 2024.
“We hope that with this opening we can meet that goal. Malaysia is targeting 4 million Indonesian guests there,” Yusnita said.
