REPUBLICA.CO.ID, PANDEGLANG -- Grand Mosque As Salafie Caringin, Labuan District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten is now 138 years old and its condition is still maintained. The old mosque was built by the charismatic cleric Sheikh Asnawi bin Sheikh Abdurrahman.
“The mosque was built in 1886 or three years after the disaster of the eruption of Mount Krakatau in 1883,” said Ustadz Mumu Asnawi, grandson of Sheikh Asnawi who became Chairman of the Prosperity Council of Agung As Salafie Mosque (DKM), in Pandeglang, Thursday (28/3/2024).
The Great Mosque of As Salafie is a testament to the history of the spread of Islam in Banten Province. In fact, around the mosque there are four educational institutions of Koran-specific boarding houses.
The mosque is a place for various religious activities for local residents during Ramadan 2024. Activities are held, starting to open together, congregate prayers, and study of the Quran.
Worshippers every Ramadan are full to perform tarawih and study prayers. The capacity of the mosque for Friday prayers can accommodate 500 worshippers, in addition to indigenous people also from outside the area.
“We and the residents here certainly take care of and preserve the mosque,” Ustadz Mumu said.
According to him, the location of the As Salafie Mosque was in Dutch Colonial times as the residence of Demang or Regent Caringin. Therefore, the location of the mosque is in Kampung Pedamangan or the place of Regent Caringin as the center of Government of Banten Kulon Regency.
