REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- PLN Distribution Parent Unit North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo (UID Suluttengo) appealed for the whole community to remain on standby especially to secure electrical installations at home in anticipation of extreme weather ahead of Eid al-Fitri 1445 H.

“Ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri, weather conditions are still unpredictable and tend to extremes with heavy rain and strong winds,” said General Manager of PLN UID Suluttengo Ari Dartomo, in Manado on Monday (8/4/2024).

He said the Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) announced on Sunday (7/4/2024) the extreme weather would continue into the next week. This will undoubtedly increase the risk to the reliability of the power grid.

Ari Dartomo said his agency, with strict monitoring, monitors various risks of power outages, especially those caused by the weather, especially during the days leading up to Eid al-Fitr. “We understand that the current weather is very unfavorable, so we are alerting our personnel at priority points to ensure the reliability of existing electricity before the outbreak,” Dartomo said.

PLN UID Suluttengo alerted a total of 2,192 personnel along with 38 PDKB (Work Under Voltage) personnel who were prompt in anticipating various risks of possible electrical outages. Ari Dartomo also urged people to be more vigilant about potentially dangerous things.

“We appeal for the public to be actively involved in collaborating with PLN to report various potential electrical hazards that may occur. If people find installations or power lines that are close to trees or there is a flood that could potentially touch the electrical installation, it can be reported to us,” Dartomo said.

He also added that in case of flooding or damage to the power grid due to the impact of trees, PLN is obliged to temporarily stop the flow of electricity. This is necessary in order to prioritize the safety of the community.

“The safety of the community is the main thing for us. We want our customers to be able to enjoy electricity safely and comfortably without the threat of electrical hazards,” Dartomo said.

Safe tips that can be done at the moment to avoid potential electrical hazards:

1. Turn off the MCB on the kWh meter The

public can turn off immediately the Meter Circuit Breaker (MCB) on the kWh meter if it is seen that rainwater is starting to enter the house or there is a leak in the house. This is necessary because water is one of the conductors of electricity.

2. Unplug electrical appliances

Then unplug all electrical appliances that are still connected to the outlet and immediately raise the electronic appliance to a higher and safe place. Make sure both hands or body are in a dry state when unplugging the outlet.

3. If flooding is reported immediately

“In the event of a flood and the power flow is still on, immediately report it on the PLN Mobile application so that PLN officers can immediately temporarily stop the flow of electricity at the flood site,” he said.

4. Ensure electrical installations and electronic appliances are dry

After the flood recedes, make sure all electrical installations and electronic appliances are dry before returning to power through the MCB at kWh meters.

“Some of these simple tips we hope will help people to be safer in the event of flooding,” Dartomo said.

If the electricity flow at the site still does not return to normal, the public can report the situation through the complaints menu in the PLN Mobile application so that the PLN officers on duty can immediately follow up. “We make sure our officers are on standby 1x24 hours so that people can celebrate this year's holiday moment joyfully with relatives and relatives,” Dartomo concluded.
