REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The frequent actions of illegal parking attendants in the courtyard of convenience stores in DKI Jakarta are of concern to many parties. Because, parking levies on convenience store consumers are often considered burdensome.

Secretary of the Faction of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Parliament M Taufik Zoelkifli believes that the still large number of illegal parking attendants in convenience stores indicates that there is an unfinished social problem, namely poverty. As a result, those people look for work in an easy way, which on the other hand creates insecurity.

“That's a social issue,” he said when confirmed on Thursday (9/5/2024).

According to him, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta can take a middle way to address the social problem. One of them is to facilitate the parking lot in the convenience store so that it does not go wild, instead of making arrangements by conducting operations or raids.

Member of Commission B of the Jakarta Provincial Parliament assessed that the arrangement can be done by giving permission to the parking attendant in the minimarket. The permit can be an ordinance of the governor (pergub) or a decree of the transport service (dishub).

Taufik said that the permit could be granted to residents to utilize the convenience store's land for around foraging to become parking attendants. The parking attendant was in charge of tidying up the existing premises, guarding the parking lot, and the vehicles parked in the yard of the convenience store.

“It can be made into a pergub or a plate, so it's a win win solution. Might as well be put on the PAD. So relationships are established that help each other, mutually beneficial to the surrounding residents and convenience stores,” he said.

According to him, when parking is legal, people won't mind paying. Remembering, today there are still many people who need jobs. While finding a job is difficult. 

Taufik assessed that the move was quite possible. Because, during this time, wild parking in convenience stores could not be managed completely.
