REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of 24 Indonesian nationals (WNI) were arrested by Saudi security authorities for allegedly falsifying someone else's Hajj visa during an inspection. In fact, dozens of WNI consisting of 22 worshippers and two coordinators were registered to enter Saudi Arabia using a shahsiyyah pilgrimage visa.

“On May 28, 2024, KJRI Jeddah has accompanied the inspection and provided interpreter services for 24 WNI arrested by Saudi security authorities in Medina,” said the Director of Protection of WNI and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Judha Nugraha in a message on Thursday (30/5/2024).

According to the latest information from Saudi authorities, 22 Indonesian worshippers were released. Two-person coordinators will be legally processed along with the driver and bus owner.

Judha said that the government will provide legal assistance to ensure that the rights of the two women are fulfilled during the judicial process in Saudi Arabia. Currently, the Saudi Arabian government is tightening raids to prevent Hajj worshippers without tasreh or permission.

“Kemlu urges that WNI worshippers be able to abide by Saudi law and only perform Hajj worship with a hajj or tasreh visa,” Judha said.
