Indonesian Ministry of Trade Says Turkey Interested in Investment in New Capital

Turkey agreed to propose cooperation in the field of halal certification.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan made a working visit to hold bilateral meetings with a number of countries and represent Indonesia in various international forums. According to him, there were a number of points that were discussed during the working visit in Turkey.

Zulhas, a familiar greeting of Zulkifli Hasan, said there were a number of outcomes of discussions from bilateral meetings with Turkey. He mentioned that the results of the discussion were related to the value of trade, the purchase of equipment, to investment in the development of the Indonesia's new capital, Capital Archipelago (IKN).

“The common view is that the value of bilateral trade is not optimal yet and still can be improved. We agreed to accelerate Indonesia-Turkey CEPA (IT-CEPA) talks for the improvement of bilateral trade,” he said through a press release on Thursday (13/6/2024).

He added that Turkey also welcomed Indonesia's proposal on defense cooperation and the purchase of equipment. In addition, Turkey also accepted Indonesia's invitation to invest in IKN.

“Turkey welcomes Indonesia's invitation to invest in the development of the Archipelago Capital (IKN),” he said.

Furthermore, in a bilateral meeting, Turkey agreed to propose cooperation in the field of halal certification. In fact, Turkey proposes cooperation in the field of halal certification either within the bilateral framework or in the framework of the OIC.

“Turkey also expects more direct flights to encourage business world interaction, tourism visits, and boost trade,” he said.
