REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (Baznas) celebrates the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. In the context of fostering the spirit of zakat, the spirit of independence in harmony with the ikhtiar frees the mustahik from the snares of poverty.

“This 79th anniversary of RI is an affirmation of Baznas commitment in empowering the mustahik to break free from the shackles of poverty and achieve well-being,” Baznas RI Chairman Noor Achmad said in a written statement in Jakarta, Saturday (17/8/2024).

He affirmed that Baznas is responsible for realizing the potential of zakat to support the life of people and nations. This is especially in a concerted effort to refresh the people and enlighten the nation.

In welcoming the 79th Anniversary of RI, Baznas raised the theme “Mustahik Merdeka.” Noor mentioned that Indonesia's independence has brought a lot of progress. Among its forms is the birth of Law (Law) Number 23 of 2011 on the Management of Zakat.

“Law No. 23 of 2011 is a milestone for the management of ZIS (zakat, infak, and alms) in Indonesia. This law ensures a synergy between the government and Baznas and zakat institutions in an effort to invigorate the people,” he said.

According to Noor, in an effort to invigorate and enlighten the nation, performance improvement in various sectors is needed. There are four main strengthening elements: agency and management, human resources (HR), infrastructure, and networks.

“Strengthening institutions and management is done to ensure that Baznas and LAZ (amil zakat institutions) throughout Indonesia have good and professional management,” he said.

For this reason, Noor emphasized that it continues to strengthen the competence and professionalism of the Baznas amil zakat throughout Indonesia, because the task of refreshing the people and enlightening the nation must be handled by qualified and well-skilled human resources.
