REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DEPOK -- In a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad gave a message about the beneficial properties of the Prophet. According to Ibn Abbas, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Whoever needs mercy, surely Allah will give him a way out of all difficulties, space over all troubles, and gives His sustenance from the unsuspected.” (MR. Abu David, Ibn Majah, Ahmad in Al Musnad, At Thabrani in Al Mu'jam Al Awsath, Al Baihaqi in As Sunan Al Kubro, and others)

In Awn Al Ma'bud: Syarh Sunan Abi Daud, it is mentioned that a person needs to ask forgiveness from Allah (SWT) when he commits a sin, a disaster strikes him, and is in a state where he constantly commits sinful deeds.

So why do you need to istighfar so much? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said in this regard, as follows:

“Blessed are those who in the records of their charity are found a great deal.” (H.R. Abu Daud)

Asking God for forgiveness will make it easier for a person to solve all the problems that are being passed. He will be given a way out of the problems he faces. This way out is the way to the fullness of Allah's mercy.

The person who asks for forgiveness is also given relief from all worries, anxieties and restlessness that are felt. The relief referred to refers to safety.

As for the sustenance of Allah SWT that is given to those who ask for forgiveness, it is a halal and thayyib sustenance. Sustenance will be given to the person who asks for forgiveness from Allah in an unexpected way, that is, it is not thought of by him and at times that are not expected.

It is also stated in Syarh Sunan Abi Daud, that this hadith comes from the following words of Allah SWT:

"And (also) those who, when they commit abominable deeds or wrong themselves, (immediately) remember Allah, then ask forgiveness for their sins, and who (else) can forgive their sins except Allah? And they do not continue their sins, while they know. The reward for them is forgiveness from their Lord and heaven -a paradise beneath which rivers flow, therein they will abide forever. And (that is) the best reward for those who do good deeds." (QS. Ali Imran verse 135-136)
