REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said there are three sectors that support the promotion of the halal industry in the country, namely the halal pharmaceutical and cosmetic sector, the halal food sector, and the fashion sector.

“The halal pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry sector, Indonesia rose three places to fifth place, the halal food industry sector, Indonesia ranked second, and the modest fashion sector, Indonesia ranked third,” he said.

He said that the domestic halal industry has great potential for development, given the increase in Muslim consumer spending, which reached 9.5 percent from 2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2021 to 2.29 trillion U.S. dollars in 2022.

In addition, the world's Muslim population is expected to grow to 2.2 billion, or 26.5 percent, by 2030.

“The increase in numbers will certainly be in line with the growing demand for halal industrial products. Thus, Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, with 235.6 million inhabitants, has a very promising market potential for the growth of the sharia economy and the halal industry,” he said.

Furthermore, in order to promote the national halal industry, the Ministry of Industry has carried out and actively participated at exhibitions of halal products at home and abroad, such as Almaty Halal Expo in Kazakhstan, OIC Halal Expo in Istanbul Turkey, and Russia Halal Expo in Kazan, Russia.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry continued to encourage the facilitation of halal certification for small industries (IK). In the past three years, the Ministry of Industry's Halal Industry Empowerment Center (PPIH) has facilitated halal certification to 3,095 IOUs, both under regular and self-declared schemes.
