REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the All-Indonesia Football Association (Ketum PSSI) Erick Thohir appreciates the struggle of the Indonesian U-20 national team to qualify for the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup in China.
This certainty was obtained after Dony Tri Pamungkas and friends played a 1-1 draw against Yemen in the last match of Group F of the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup qualification at Madya Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (29/9/2024) night.
This result left Indonesia at the top of the final standings of Group F with seven points, ahead on goal difference (+6 goals) over second-placed Yemen with the same points (+5 goals) who also qualified for the final round after being one of the best five runners up.
“Thank God, qualify for the final round of the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup in China. Thank you Garuda Muda squad, officials, and Indonesian people for their support,” Erick said, quoted from the official PSSI website, Monday (30/9/2024).
The 2025 U-20 Asian Cup will be played on February 6-23 next year attended by a total of 16 teams. Participants will be divided into four groups. Only the champion and second placed of each group were eligible to qualify for the round of the top eight.
In addition to Indonesia, there were Syria, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Japan, and Qatar who qualified as group champions in the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup qualifiers.
The five countries that qualified as the top two in addition to Yemen were Kyrgyzstan, Australia, Thailand, and Jordan.
A total of four teams qualified for the semifinals of the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup are eligible to represent Asia to contest the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.
