REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar expects the streamlining of the organizational structure or work unit in the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Ministry of Religious Affairs) to make all ranks in the ministry more professional in their work.

“The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia is being downsized. Hopefully the streamlining will contribute to the realization of a more professional Ministry of Religious Affairs,” Nasaruddin said during a joint working meeting with Commission VIII of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Monday.

In the end, he continued, the professionalism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can also contribute to the presentation of a larger and stronger Indonesian nation.

Previously, according to Nasaruddin, the number of organizational structures in the Ministry did seem excessive or “fat”. Slowly, he said, the downsizing was beginning to be carried out by the government.

“The Ministry of Religion has been streamlined by 7.5 fractions. First it used to be the Religious Judiciary under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Now, let out, go to the Supreme Court,” he said.

Next, Nasaruddin said that there is also a research and development working unit under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has now been transferred to the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Then, the issue of zakat, which used to be the full authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is now the authority of the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas).

“It used to be a waqaf, all in (completely) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now there is a BWI, Indonesian Waqaf Agency,” he added.

Later in the era of the government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the Hajj and Umrah Agency was established as an independent institution separate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that the government could focus more on improving the organization of worship in the safe and comfortable Holy Land.

In the future, Nasaruddin hopes that there will also be cooperation with the VIII Commission of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia to ensure that the Ministry of Religious Affairs performance in the period 2024—2029 is better than in previous periods.

“We are very confident that with the direction and guidance of Commission VIII, God willing we will solve the challenges ahead well,” he said.
