REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during a state visit in London, England, on Thursday (21/11/2024), said he specifically invited King Charles III to return to Indonesia. It was in reply to King Charles' invitation to him to visit London.

“He has been to Indonesia twice and I invite him to come again,” Prabowo said in a press statement on a working visit to the UK in the Presidential Secretariat YouTube quoted in Jakarta on Friday (22/11/2024).

The invitation was delivered by Prabowo in between meetings with King Charles III who also discussed other topics, such as environmental issues and nature conservation. If King Charles III fulfills the invitation, a visit to Indonesia will be meaningful because it will be the first time he has visited as monarch.

Previously, King Charles III visited Indonesia on two occasions and at that time still held the status of prince. His first visit was in 1989 when he was accompanied by his then wife Princess Diana. Prabowo, then President Prabowo's son-in-law, welcomed Prince Charles at the Presidential Palace.

His second visit in 2008 lasted about a week. The visit was filled with many dialogues discussing environmental and humanitarian issues. Charles's second visit began with a meeting and dialogue with Islamic religious leaders at the Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta.

He also briefly reviewed the cooperation of the Harapan Forest Project in Jambi and discussed the issues of climate change to global warming. Pangerang Charles also met with the 6th President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and also gave a presidential lecture.

During a visit on another day, Prince Chales also visited Borobudur Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java. At that time, he enjoyed the historical tourist areas of Indonesia.
