REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Viada Hafid said he had blocked 104,819 online gambling sites. The blockades are in place as of November 4 to November 19.
This was revealed by Meutya I met the press at the Komdigi office on Thursday (21/11/2024). However, he said if counted since the new government of President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka the number has reached more than three times that.
“If we count from October 20 or the new government, the number is already at 380,000,” he said.
In addition, he also called for private banks to cooperate in eradicating online gambling. Because, he says that his message from online gambling is his account or his funds flow.
“We monitor one of the most (accounts used for online gambling) is Bank BCA, Bank BRI, Bank BNI, Mandiri, Niaga, BSI, Danamon, and others,” he said.
“It means that once again strong cooperation with banking will be urgently needed because once again the pulse of this online gambling is precisely in the accounts or the flow of funds,” he said.
Earlier, the Special Task Force (Task Force) on Online Gambling asked the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Kemkomdigi) to block tens of thousands of online gambling or online gambling sites. The request is a preventive effort to prevent online gambling from becoming more rampant in society.
Deputy Head of the Online Gambling Task Force Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri said that his agency has made various efforts to eradicate online gambling. In addition to law enforcement, the police also carry out various preventive efforts to eradicate online gambling cases.
“In addition to law enforcement, over the past five months, the Police carried out preemptive and also preventive activities,” he said during a press conference in Bareskrim Mabes Polri on Saturday (2/11/2024).
He mentioned that since June 15, 2024, it has carried out 12,308 preemptive activities in the form of education to the community through schools, campuses, and government agencies. In addition, it also submitted a request to block online gambling sites to Kemkomdigi.
“Preventive activities (were carried out) by submitting information on websites or content of gambling practices to the Ministry of Komdigi for 76,722 content or sites,” Asep said.
