REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir expressed gratitude for the success of the Indonesian women's national team in advancing to the semifinals of the AFF Women's Cup 2024. The Indonesian national team made it to the semi-finals after defeating Malaysia 1-0 in the second match of Group B of the 2024 AFF Women's Cup at the New Laos National Stadium, Vientiane, on Tuesday (26/11/2024) night.
Indonesia's only wayang goal was scored by Claudia Scheunemann in the 79th minute. “Malaysia 0-1 Indonesia. Thank God the Indonesian women's national team made it to the semi-finals after a win over Malaysia in the second match of the AFF Women's Cup 2024 group stage. Claudia Scheunemann's goal was the decisive factor in Garuda Pertiwi's victory,” Erick Thohir said in a post on his Instagram account.
The Indonesian national team is currently top of Group B by packing four points from two games played. The victory over Malaysia ensured Indonesia qualified for the semi-finals of the 2024 AFF Women's Cup.
The win over Malaysia was the first victory for Indonesia's Putri team after a 0-0 draw in the inaugural Group B match against Cambodia.
Even so, this victory made Timnas Putri Indonesia automatically advance to the semifinals regardless of the result of the match Cambodia vs. Malaysia.
The schedule for the semi-finals of the 2024 AFF Women's Cup will take place on 2 December 2024. Meanwhile, the third place and final competition was held on December 5, 2024.
Indonesian women's national team striker Claudia Scheunemann said she was proud her goal could be decisive in the victory over Malaysia. “I'm grateful for this goal, even though I didn't play from the start, I was able to be the difference and I'm proud of this goal,” the 15-year-old said after the match.
