REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government ensures the supply of electricity in a safe condition and sufficient for people's needs during the Christmas holidays 2024 and New Year 2025. Jisman Hutajulu, Director-General of the Ministry of Electricity of the Ministry of Electricity, said people's electricity consumption during Christmas and New Year is likely to fall to an average of 13 percent of normal conditions.
“Naturally, during the New Year it usually falls by about 13 percent, although when compared with the 2023 period, there is an increase of 8 percent,” he said in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday (12/15/2024).
According to him, he received a report from PT PLN (Persero) regarding the availability of electricity during Christmas-New Year while visiting Balikpapan Bay Steam Power Plant (PLTU), East Kalimantan, on Saturday (14/12/2024).
“We have already received a report from PLN Transmission Director Evy Hariyadi, who delivered her report that preparations for Christmas are safe, in reserve margin or reserves we still have enough for Christmas and this new year,” Jisman said.
He added that the increase in electricity consumption of 8 percent in the last year can be anticipated by PLN and indicates economic growth.
“The increase in consumption is actually a good thing, it shows an increase in the electricity load. So, there's growing the economy, growing electricity is great, and that's what we're hoping for,” Jisman said.
Based on PLN data, the general electrical condition of the Borneo system until 12 December 2024 has a peak load (BP) of 2,359 MW with a reserve of 309 MW, a net capable power of 2,941 MW, and a power transformer capacity of 6,741 MVA.
The Kalimantan system with 96 substations and a transmission network of 8,476 kms or 12,072 towers, is divided into two parts, the Equatorial system and the interconnection.
The forecast peak load on Christmas Eve (25/12/2024) in the Equator system was 479 MW or had an increase of 13 percent over the same period of 2023 and a decrease of 15.68 percent against weekdays.
Meanwhile, the forecast peak load on New Year's Eve (12/31/2024) amounted to 516 MW or increased by 24 percent compared to last year and decreased by 2.79 percent against weekdays.
On the interconnection system, the forecast peak load on Christmas Eve (25/12/2024) of 1,639 MW increased by 13 percent compared to last year 2023 and decreased by 9.93 percent against weekdays.
Meanwhile, the forecast peak load on New Year's Eve (12/31/2024) amounted to 1,701 MW or experienced a 15 percent increase compared to the same period of 2023 and a decrease of 0.41 percent against weekdays.
The Ministry of ESDM has established the National Post of Mineral Resources Energy Sector (ESDM) to maintain the smooth supply of energy during the Christmas holidays 2024 and New Year 2025.
In addition to monitoring the stability of fuel, gas and electricity supplies, the post also monitors geological disasters.
