Ministry of Commerce: Halal Product Trade Reached 53.73 Billion US Dollars

Export value of halal products January-October 2024 was recorded at 41.4 billion US dollars.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Commerce (Kemendag) recorded the total trade of halal products January-October 2024 at 53.73 billion US dollars. This amount was up 0.58 percent compared to the same period of the previous year of IDR 53.42 billion.

Director General of National Export Development (PEN) Mardyana Listyowati said that in the period 2019-2023, trade in halal products registered a positive trend of 10.99 percent per year.

“In the period January-October 2024, the total value of trade was recorded at 53.73 billion US dollars, this is an increase of 0.58 percent compared to the same period in 2023,” Mardyana said at the opening of a media briefing on Indonesia's Halal Products Export at the Ministry of Commerce office, Jakarta, quoted Saturday (21/12/2024).

In terms of the balance of trade in halal products, the 2019-2023 period recorded a trend increase of 10.86 percent, with a record high in 2022 of 47.7 billion US dollars. However, the value fell to 53.42 billion US dollars, as it was affected by the conditions of the global economy.

The export value of halal products in the period January-October 2024 was recorded at 41.4 billion US dollars. This figure is down when compared to the same period of the previous year which recorded 42.3 billion US dollars.

Furthermore, Mardyana said, there are five countries that are the priority destinations for exports of halal products in the period January-October 2024, namely the United States (7.29 billion US dollars), China (6.17 billion US dollars), Pakistan (2.05 billion US dollars) and Malaysia (1.71 billion US dollars).

“The export of halal products in the period January-October 2024 is still dominated by halal food and beverages at 81.16 percent of the total exports of halal products, modest fashion occupies the next position with 16.48 percent, pharmaceuticals 1.48 percent and cosmetics by 0.88 percent,” Mardyana said.

Mardyana said that the Ministry of Commerce will undertake a number of strategies to increase the export of halal products. Some of this is to help promote abroad through cooperation with 44 Indonesian trade representatives in 33 countries, as well as helping to include business participants in exhibitions abroad.

“It also includes bringing together business participants in business matching, as well as making business matching with buyers-buyers from abroad,” he said.
