REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir reviewed the progress of the development of Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport which is planned into a dedicated terminal for Umrah and Hajj worshippers. The move is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to improve the Hajj and Umrah services system to make it more transparent, accountable and convenient for the community.
“Airports are a window to a nation. People coming from abroad definitely see the facilities, service, and convenience of our airport. However, we must ensure equal respect for our own nation,” Erick said while reviewing Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Wednesday (1/1/2025).
President Prabowo, Erick said, has stressed the importance of thoroughly structuring the hajj and umrah ecosystem.
“Today I deliberately checked Mr. President's grand plans regarding Hajj and Umrah services, which have been important rituals, but the ecosystem has not been completely tidied up,” he said.
Erick mentioned that Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport serves up to 10,000 Umrah worshippers daily, both departures and arrivals. During the Hajj season, the number of worshippers is projected to reach 241 thousand people, while umrah worshippers are estimated at 1.3 million to 1.5 million people per year.
In an effort to improve services, Erick stated Terminal 2F would feature a mosque and a lounge dedicated to Umrah worshippers. “I ask that services for regular umrah also be improved. Not only the middle class and VIPs, but all worshippers should be given equal priority,” Erick said.
Erick also emphasized collaboration between the Ministry of SOE, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Organization of Hajj and Umrah.
“We are committed to supporting and working together to improve services for worshippers. Our goal is to create an integrated ecosystem of hajj and umrah, while supporting tourism thoroughly,” Erick said.
Through cooperation between ministries and related service providers, Erick said, the government is determined to deliver high standards of service for a smooth journey of worship for all worshippers. With this step, Erick hopes Indonesia will become an example of a country capable of organizing a professional and inclusive Hajj and Umrah ecosystem.
