REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir mentioned that the plans for the merger or merger of airlines Garuda Indonesia and Pelita Air have been included in the road map in the next six months. Erick at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (2/1/2024) said that it had gathered the President Directors of PT Garuda Indonesia and PT Pelita Air, including the President Director of Citilink as a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia, to discuss the roadmap for the next six months.
“Yes it's back (meeting), it's part of the road map that's six months ahead. Why am I collecting today? That became part of his discussion (regarding the planned merger of state-owned airlines),” Erick said.
Erick said this after a meeting with various aviation SOEs, namely President Director of Garuda Indonesia Wamildan Tsani Pandjaitan; President Director of Pelita Air Dendy Kurniawan; President Director of Citilink Indonesia Dewa Kadek Rai; InJourney Airports, and Perum of the Indonesian Aviation Navigation Services Organization (LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia.
The meeting discussed efforts to maintain Indonesia's aviation safety amid the rise in aviation accidents in several countries, preparation for the anticipated surge of Lebaran 2025 passengers including discussions on the smelter of Garuda Indonesia and Pelita Air.
Erick further said that later the merger of the three state-owned airline companies would be separated from both the managing side of the airport and its flights.
In the meantime, for aviation there will be more talk about its synergies and restructuring.
“If the airport and the flight remain separate. But between these flights, of course, we will talk about the synergies and also the restructuring,” Erick said.
“But the solution ecosystem of the airline industry and its entire service does not stop because it is the B2B of the corporation. But when it comes to blueprints, the design is not delayed. That's part of how we consolidate more that can be maximized,” Erick added.
Erick hopes the merger of the three airline companies can be completed by this year. It was also part of the aviation efficiency solution.
“It's six months, if you can this year. Why wasn't it last year? The study is all about it. It can't be a piece, which is the bottom line, a solution to the efficiency of national aviation,” Erick said.
