REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - US President Barack Obama wins the 2012 US presidential election. His victory gave positive impact for Indonesia, an analyst from Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Indonesia, Philips J Vermonte, said.
"Since he was elected as president, US is more friendly to Indonesia," Vermonte said on Wednesday.
He also analyzed that Indonesian strategic partnership with the US would continue. "If Romney won, he would probably make some different approaches," he added.
Obama victory also had positive impact for the US while International policy and strategy, he said, would not be changed. Thus, US can avoid war with Iran. Obama, he said, always brought forward negotiation.
The world will also welcome Obama's win because they can continue their current relationship with the US.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Indonesia, Scot Marciel, said the US would still engage with Asia whoever became the US president. "Relationship with Indonesia is not controversial. We are very pleased seeing the improvement with Indonesia," he said.
He emphasized that US investment in Indonesia would continue to grow. However, he said, it depended on Indonesia and its policy.
