REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Leader in Gaza Strip, Ismail Haniyah, appreciates Indonesian support for Palestine during the visit of Indonesian House of Representatives to Palestine. While receiving Indonesian delegation on Thursday, he said Indonesia was geographically far, but it was close to Palestinians' heart.
The delegation, led by the Speaker of Commission I of the House, Mahfudz Siddiq, consists of 49 members, including seven members of the House, 10 reporters, humanitarian activists and staff of Indonesian Embassy in Cairo and Amman, Jordan.
Haniyah said the recent military aggression was the most painful. However, he said that Palestine was not alone because it was supported by international community, including Indonesia.
He told the entourage that Palestinians saw many Indonesians took the street supporting Palestine and condemning their enemy in television. He appreciated them and thanked those who prayed for Palestine.
Mahfudz Siddiq said the visit represented Indonesian sympathy towards Palestinians. "Our main mission is to deliver political support and give humanitarian aids," he said.
He said that the problem in Palestine was also the problem of Muslim world since it involved Masjidil Aqsa. "We are preserving Islamic heritage," he said.
