REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YANGON - Indonesia and Myanmar hope to reach a target bilateral trade worth a billion USD trade by 2016. Speaking after meeting Myanmar's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Economy Hatta Rajasa said Indonesia had a surplus trade with Myanmar.
"We would like to raise it to a billion USD," Rajasa said on Wednesday, as reported by Nur Aini from Republika Online.
Indonesian trade volume with Myanmar in 2012 is 465 million USD. To reach the target, Indonesia plans to import soy bean and rice from Myanmar. "I believe that we will surpass 500 million USD this year," he said.
Myanmar's Vice Minister of Trade, Pwint Hsan, is optimistic that both countries could reach a billion USD trade volume. "We can reach it, especially for coal commodity," Hsan said.
