REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia hosted Special Conference on Irregular Movement of Persons in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The conference addressed people smuggling and trafficking. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa will lead the conference.
In a written statement on Monday, Natalegawa said implementation of this Ministerial Conference was Indonesian president's initiative to encourage settlement on issue over people smuggling and trafficking in Asia Pacific region which showed an increase in recent years.
The event was attended by a number of ministers and high officials from 14 countries in Asia Pacific region that are most affected by issue of illegal migration are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Iran, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Two international organizations, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nation for Refugee Agency (UNHCR). presented at this conference.
