REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MOSUL -- A suicide bomber killed three senior army officers, among them a brigadier general, and another soldier in northern Iraq on Sunday, police and a mortuary employee said.
The bomber detonated an explosives-rigged vehicle near a military convoy in the city of Mosul, also wounding 10 people, among them six soldiers, the sources said.
The attack comes after five senior officers, among them a divisional commander, and 10 other soldiers were killed during a December 21 operation against militants in the western province of Anbar.
Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008, when the country was just emerging from a period of brutal sectarian killings.
More than 6,750 people have been killed in Iraq since the beginning of 2013, according to AFP figures based on security and medical sources.
