REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- An anti drug police unit nabbed a Malaysian identified as MA charged with drug trafficking in Batam on Monday.

MA (34) was arrested at a hotel in the Nagoya area in possession of narcotics known as Ketamine or Key, a Batam police spokesman Comr. Boy Herlambang said.

Police succeeded in arresting the drug dealer with 992 grams of ketamine after secretly following him by an officer pretending as a buyer, Boy said.

"The officer showed Rp400 million to convince MA that he wanted to buy the illicit drug," he added.

Ketamine is a synthetic narcotic of third category, a depressant unlike psychotropic, which is an anti-depressant, he said, adding it is a white crystal, known among the dealers and users as "key."

Early this month, the National Anti Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested an Indonesian woman, involved in the smuggling of methamphetamine and heroine to Indonesia from Malaysia.

The suspect was charged with smuggling a total of 4.5 kilograms of heroine and 1.6 kilograms of methamphetamine four times.

BNN and police are still chasing after a Nigerian suspected of the big boss of the dealers using Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia to smuggle narcotics to Indonesia via Batam.
