REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON -- Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro arrived in Spain, on Wednesday, for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing defense
cooperation between the two countries.
During his visit to Spain, Purnomo will hold talks with his Spanish counterpart Pedro de Morens y lvarez de Eulate and will visit the Airbus plant in
Sevilla, Theodorus Satrio Nugroho, the educational, social and cultural counselor of the Indonesian embassy in Madrid stated in a press statement released on
Wednesday.
At the Airbus plant, the minister will inspect the preparations for the roll out of the sixth Airbus C-295 plane, which was ordered by Indonesia.
In addition, he will also have a look at the Eurofighter Thypoon plane at the Airbus Airport in Getafe and will visit a dockyard in Freire, related to the
preparations for the construction of a new tall ship that will replace the Indonesian warship, KRI Dewaruci.
Purnomo's visit to Spain is a follow-up of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two defense ministers in Jakarta, on February 13, last year.
Initiated in 2007, the MoU aims to strengthen the relations between the two countries in the field of science and technology, particularly to garner benefits
from the military system and apparatus, to cooperate in military operations other than war, and to jointly develop the aircraft industry, he emphasized.
