RI, Morocco seeking to step up educational cooperation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON -- Indonesia and Morocco are making every effort to intensify educational and cultural cooperation between the two nations, according to the Indonesian embassy in Morocco.

To that end, Indonesian Ambassador to Morocco Tosari Widjaja met with Rector of Sidi Mohamed ben Abdellah University (USMBA) in Fes, Morocco, Prof. Dr. Omar Sabhi recently, third secretary of the embassy's educational, social and cultural section, Suparman Hasibuan noted in a press statement on Thursday.

At the meeting, Omar Sabhi appreciated the Indonesian embassy for its active role in developing educational cooperation between the two countries.

Through the embassy, a number of programs have been carried out at USMBA University in support of educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries, he stated.

Omar Sabhi also touched upon cooperation between the Moroccan university with Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) in Semarang, Central Java, and Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) in Malang, East Java.

The USMBA rector explained that he will visit the two Indonesian universities in the near future.

He also invited theater groups from Indonesian universities to take part in a theater group show to be held at USMBA in April this year.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Tosari warmly welcomed a plan by the Moroccan university's delegation to visit the two Indonesian universities.

Established in 1975, USMBA is one of leading universities in Morocco. The university was named after the great king of Alawiyah dynasty, Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah who was born in 1134 Hijra.
