Simon Santoso advances to finals of Singapore Open

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- Indonesian men's singles player Simon Santoso advanced to the finals of the Singapore Open Badminton Super Series 2014, after defeating Chinese fifth seeded Du Pengyu.

Simon's victory has encouraged him to enter the world top 10, according to information obtained from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) homepage on Saturday.

In the semifinals, Simon, the world 52nd ranked player, needed one hour, 13 minutes to crush Du Pengyu 16-21, 21-17, 21-17.

With the victory, the score between Simon and Du Pengyu finished at 3-2 for Simon.

Simon lost in the first game to Du Pengyu, 16-21, while in the second game Simon won 21-17. In the third game the match ran tight, though Simon won 21-17.

In the final match on Sunday (April 13), Simon will face top seeded Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who previously crushed Indian player Srikanth K in two straight games, 21-19, 21-18.

The Sunday match will be the 11th meet between Simon and Lee Chong Wei.
