REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMPIT -- Some fish merchants in Sampit, Central Kalimantan, have donated money to assist the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, which is under attack by Israeli soldiers.
"I am very concerned about our brothers and sisters in Palestine who are facing attacks from Israeli soldiers. It is impossible for us to go to Palestine. Thus, the only assistance can be in the form of donations and prayers," Mia, one of the fish merchants, stated here on Tuesday.
Moreover, several groups of university students in Kotawaringin Timur also collected donations from the people.
The students formed a team called "Sampit Moslem Youth Care for Palestine" and collected donations by going door-to-door in several strategic locations.
They collected donations from several stores and consumers using boxes with the words, "Voluntary Donation for Palestine."
"We believe the donations will be received by the Palestinian people. It is time for us to help our brothers in Palestine because they need our assistance," stated a donator in Sampit, Rahmad.
The team has circulated charity boxes to several places such as Mentaya Shopping Center, Sampit Fishery Market, Town Square, and other places in the city.
