REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PHNOM PENH - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Friday that his country would not allow China's Taiwan to open any representative office in the territory, noting that Taiwan was just a China's province.
"We would like to officially stress that our foreign policy is supporting one-China policy," he said during a weekly cabinet meeting.
"We cannot allow Taiwan to open any representative office in Cambodia at any cost... Taiwan is only a province of China," the prime minister said. "This is our official policy."
Hun Sen reiterated that Cambodia did not allow Taiwan to hold a national day or to hoist a flag in Cambodia even in a hotel or elsewhere. His reaction came after the Taipei Times newspaper online reported Thursday that Cambodia gave green light to Taiwan to open a trade center in Phnom Penh next month.
Hun Sen denied that Cambodia had given approval to Taiwan for such a center. "There may be any group of swindlers cheating Taiwan, or Taiwan itself has an intention to strengthen its position in demanding independence from China," he said.
