REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- One of Malaysian cult leaders and his followers allegedly escaped into Indonesia after the activity was exposed by media in early September.

Kuala Lumpur media on Tuesday reported that the cult leader was an employee in Department of Islamic Studies. He failed to be arrested on Friday as he did not come to Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2.

"There were only seven others, including two women and a child. The authority identified them as mediator of the cult leader," said a source.

However, the authority did not have order to arrest the seven persons. There is a possibility that the cult leader fled to Indonesia using illegal networks. The source said that Indonesia became a place to escape, based on an investigation.

Official of Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs, Zamihan Mat Zin Al Ghari said that the group was allegedly to have funds up to 3 million RM or 11 billion IDR and has the potential to be involved in militant activity. The group consisted of 5,000 members across Malaysia and obtained financial resources from donations of its members.  The group has relationship with a political organization in a neighboring country.

The group actively carried out its activity in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan before starting to infiltrate the northern part of Malaysian peninsula.
