REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YAMAGUCHI -- The Yamaguchi prefectural government culled about 37,000 chickens Tuesday at a poultry farm in the city of Nagato after confirming a bird flu outbreak there.

The move followed the western Japan prefecture's announcement earlier in the day that a genetic test confirmed the virus at the farm after a total of 21 chickens died Sunday and Monday.

The central government held a meeting of relevant ministers to handle the outbreak, including Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Koya Nishikawa and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
