REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUWAIT -- President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah will fly to Jakarta tomorrow to meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo regarding the Asian country's hosting of the 18th Asian Games, due in 2018.
Sheikh Ahmad will be leading an Asian and international sport delegation to get a first-hand account of the preparations of Indonesia and facilities hosting competitions, OCA Director General Hussein Al-Musallam told KUNA Sunday (4/1).
The visit is important because it aims at coordinating with the Indonesians on the importance of the success of the Asian Games "which require high technical standards," said Al-Musallam.
Sheikh Ahmad, he added, would also meet MPs, government and sport officials to discuss the preparations for the games, expected to include 36 games featuring 15,000 athletes.
The Asian Games are expected to be covered by around 10,000 journalists and to include 7,000 technicians and referees, noted Al-Musallam.
Sheikh Ahmad, also Chairman of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), will visit Australia to attend meetings of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the opening of the AFC Championship.
The ANOC chief will also visit the Philippines and China before flying to Qatar for the opening of the world handball championship.
