REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government of Indonesia condemns twin suicide bomb attacks in Tripoli, Lebanon, last Sunday, January 11. Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends its condolences for the families of the victims.
As cited from press release on Tuesday, January 13, Indonesia hopes Lebanon immediately protects its citizens. According to the information from local agencies and Indonesian community in Tripoli, no Indonesians became the victims of the attack.
Indonesian Embassy warns Indonesian citizens to avoid crowded place. The suicide bomb attacks took place in Cafe Omran, a popular hangout for the residents of Jabal Mohsen. A suicide bomber walked in and blew himself up at approximately 7:30pm. A second bomber was said to have detonated at the entrance.
At least nine people were killed and another 35 wounded in the twin suicide attacks, the first to rock the country in seven months. Within hours of the attacks, al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front claimed responsibility, saying the "double martyrdom operation" that targeted the cafe of the "nusayri" (a derogatory term used against Alawites) was done in "revenge for the Sunnis in Syria and Lebanon".
