REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A migrant organization, Migrant Care, urges President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to protest over 'Fire your Indonesian maid' ad during his visit to Malaysia. Jokowi is scheduled to visit several ASEAN countries from February 5-7.
"The Malaysian RoboVac ad is insulting and discriminating Indonesian migrant workers. President Jokowi must protest to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak," Director of Migrant Care, Anis Hidayah, said on Wednesday, February 4.
Hidayah said Jokowi's visit to Malaysia had a strategic value as Malaysia had a dynamic diplomatic relations with Indonesia. Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia have been strained by various issues over the last decade.
"Jokowi's visit must reflect his Nawacita principles, bringing the image that Indonesia is protecting its citizens," he said.
Migrant Care urges Jokowi to struggle for the rights of migrant workers. Hidayah mentioned that Indonesian migrant workers had several issues, mainly on their rights.
